Deep green, warm brown with orange accents and the cool blue of the mountain waters under the clear Mediterranean sky. A Greece rich in colours, aromas, life and itineraries, different from the seascape we usually associate with it.

The photographers of the exhibition invite us to follow them along uneven routes in central and western Greece, through the impressive rock massifs of Meteora, the mythical Drakolimni and Arenes, through passages and gorges such as Aoos and Baros, the valleys of Asopos and Valia Calda, and finally to touch the peaks, from Pindos to the dwelling place of the Gods on Mount Olympus.

Through the eyes of Penelope Thomaidi we see impressive volumes and shapes, while George Tsafos reveals the colours of mountainous Greece. At the same time, Sakis Gioumpasis’s shots wink at lovers of fantasy stories, and Dimitris Tosidis, a mountaineer himself, takes us ever closer to the sky, and for a moment we may envy the lonely mountaineer who reaches Guzel Tepe (Beautiful Peak).

The annual international photojournalism festival Athens Photo World is in its sixth year. We remain true to our original aim of promoting and highlighting contemporary photojournalists who are constantly working in Greece and abroad, so that the general public can have a picture (literally and figuratively) of history as it is being written.

Through our annual exhibitions, both indoor and outdoor, and a range of activities, we invite viewers, whether casual passers-by or intimate acquaintances, to see photography for the supreme and universal channel of communication and knowledge that it is. We invite you to get to know the names behind the images and to see the photographs not as “beautiful” or “difficult”, but as a window that connects the many aspects of the world in which we live.
