The work “07:00 – 15:00” is a reflective portrayal of the monotony and stagnation of the Greek public sector through the everyday lives of people searching for meaning and a way out. Where human creativity is often stifled by bureaucracy.
These are the working hours of the Greek public services.
Until recently, the dream of almost all Greeks was to secure a position in some (any) service in the public sector, with the expectation of a stable salary and a sense of security and permanence. Circumstances brought me to this position without really seeking it. For ten years, I experienced from the inside what the Greek public sector means. Grey spaces, anemic rhythms, oceans of paper, from which the spectre of bureaucracy emerged daily, suppressing every trace of human creativity.
People who are exhausted, not from fatigue, but from a relentless daily routine that would be less unbearable if this mechanism worked more smoothly. People who work, dream, celebrate, get bored, search for the meaning behind it all and together they often find the “emergency exit”. My intention was not to embarrass my former colleagues in any way, but to document their lives and daily routines. Therefore, my work is an observation and a record that circumstances have raised to the dimensions of a socio-historical document.
